Remembering Alex

Posted by GWAA Admin on October 6, 2007

A small plaque can be found under a crepe myrtle tree that was planted in 2003 near the spot where his fatal collapse took place. The bible verse used on the plaque is: ?Those who hope in the Lord will soar on wings of eagles and run without growing weary.?

You may want to read more about the story behind why this young athlete and musician died so unexpectedly. Alex?s father has written a book that gives the reader a glimpse into Alex?s character and importance to his family, and then goes on to show how several catastrophic mistakes were made as he was evaluated in the healthcare system after he first collapsed. The book looks beyond what happened to Alex. It shows that medical errors are common in our healthcare system and that the current debate over healthcare reform must include provisions for patients to become the focus of the team responsible for their well being. Alex?s father believes this can be accomplished through a patient bill of rights.
